Road races : Roosenboom and Marreiros

Flanders Grand Prix

Bianca Roosenboom in the sprint

Closed 16K race for the ladies with some athletes 'warming-up' for the European championships later on this week. ALso interesting is the mixture between junior and senior ladies and this was exactly the mix we saw on the podium. Dutch marathon expert Bianca Roosenboom won the sprint before Berber Vonk and French youth skater Marine Kervoelen.

Marreiros on championship level

Traditional 30K race for the men, with 106 starters at the line early in the morning. After a closed bunch in the first half of the race, five athletes decided to escape to victory. Expected names as Peter Michael, Patxi Puela and Diogo Marreiros and also French youngster Timothy Loubineaud and American Caleb Wakefield took maximum 45" and that was just enough to hold on the bunch in the last lap. Marreiros was the fastest in the last line and confirmes his shape as shown earlier in the Flanders Grand Prix track races. Patxi Puela finished second, Peter Michael third.
