Oostende candidate to organise European Champs in 2018

Flanders Grand Prix

European championships for youth and seniors

Zwaantjes Roller Club announced its candidacy to organize the European Championship rollerspeed skating in 2018. After a busy period organizing and the world championships last summer, the team was looking for a new challenge. It would be a tournament for the categories cadets till seniors, both track and road races. This is the plan so far... The European and national committees have been informed of the ZRC candidacy for 2018. Now waiting for confirmation is the message. In 2015 Wörgl (Austria) and Valence d’Agen (France) in 2016 are already on the shortlist for the upcoming editions.

Expertise as a considerable advantage.

It can not be denied, the broad range of experience in organizing such big tournaments is undoubtely a big advantage. Oostende has already a broad range of experience, such as the World Championships in 1981, 1991, 2002 and 2013. Also with regular intervals, the Europeans have taken place at the Mundialtrack in Zandvoorde (1979, 1987, 1995, 1999 and most recently in 2009).

Goosebumps in 2009

To give you an impression of the athmosphere, we should relive the relay 3000m in the senior men category (video below). This race is one of the best examples never given up during a race. After missing the start completely, the Swings Bro's and Ferre Spruyt made an impressive comeback and dashed the race in the last lap. Looking forward to 2018, but first of all let's wait for confirmation.
